Virtual Reality- It is a 2 or 3 Dimensional environment in which people can interact with an AI or other users in a simulated world.
- 1838- The stereoscope (Charles Wheatstone)
1950- Morton Heilig's Sensorama first digital virtual reality.
2017- Oculus, Google, Microsoft (etc)...
Types of VR-
- Non-immersive: see information about the real world via computer. (Most technology today is using this type of VR). It is the least immersive of the VR. Non-immersive VR has an advantage in which the technology does not require a lot of graphic performance.
- Augmented: stay in the real world but see simulated reality. (Oculus using this to alter reality), the quality of the projected image is an important consideration being that it can destroy the illusion of the environment.
- Immersive: see the simulated and "be" in the simulated world. (Immersive VR would be similar to the Matrix). Most difficult to implement and have not yet actually done so du to the fact that fully immersive VR tend to be the most demanding in terms of computer power, graphics and level of technology.
Cyber security is a major concern in the world of Virtual Reality. According to the FBI there are million of cyber attacks that happen every year(an actual number is not known due to lack of reporting) . In 2013, Target customers were victims to one of the largest cyber attacks known. With over 40 million people having their information stolen from them. for Virtual Reality, such attacks would include stealing information, altering VR environment or spying on an individual.
Ethical Aspect of VR
- There are many security concerns when it comes to VR
- Identity Theft - Millions of people have their identity stolen each year. Since VR is still in the beginning stages of its development; because VR companies are trying to bring VR to market as quickly as possible, developers might overlook some security and privacy considerations.
- Surveillance-
- Third Party Monitoring
